Love is the answer: Canadian young artists recording Haiti benefit single

February 19, 2010

According to this article in the Globe and Mail and this Facebook page, about 40 young Canadian artists met up in Vancouver to record K’naan’s Wavin’ Flag as a benefit single for Haiti.  Artists rumoured to be involved in the project include K’naan, Nelly Furtado, Feist, Bryan Adams, Emily Haines, Ron Sexsmith and Colin James, among others.

Oh my goodness, there are so many things that I love about this project!

  1. Free the Children, War Child Canada, and World Vision Canada are all involved!
  2. Group recordings are one of my favourite musical things.  I like thinking of Canadian artists as a big collaborative family!
  3. I cannot count the number of times I’ve listened to K’naan’s Wavin’ Flag.  I can’t help singing along! It’s one of those rare catchy-but-inspirational songs.  If this new version of the song were released on a tape, I can guarantee I’d wear it out in record time. Luckily I’ll be listening to it on repeat on my iPod instead.

This is going to be the most amazing song ever. I’ll likely be sick of it within a few hours of downloading it because I’ll have listened to it so many times.

Mmmmm, So beautiful. Motivating for all. So happy to have found this. And that Canada does respond emotionally and financially.
