Thankful Thursday #12: Me to We (Mob)ilizer Edition

September 3, 2010

Last week I made seventy new best friends. I know that sounds crazy, but if you met these people you’d understand in a heartbeat. They are seventy of the warmest, most compassionate, most motivated and most inspiring people I’ve ever met.

Confront them with the problems plaguing our world, tell them that we have the tools, knowledge, and ability to solve these problems in our lifetime, and instead of crumbling under the pressure they will spend the entire week planning how to solve those problems, how to get their friends involved, how to change the world.Β  These friends have the power to turn problems into possibility. What was perceived as overwhelming and daunting on Saturday night was motivating, exciting and entirely achievable by Thursday afternoon.

In between planning, we became family. Stories that we rarely told out loud, if ever, were courageously shared and accepted with incredible support (and 18-second hugs). Spontaneous dance parties broke out at almost every meal. We sang, we dreamed, we stared at the stars.

I haven’t felt this inspired – this full of hope – in years. It’s very difficult toΒ  put this feeling into words, but I feel like I’ve been floating around on a cloud for a week. I feel restless, in the best way you can imagine. I keep repeating don’t lose this feeling, don’t lose this feeling, don’t lose this feeling to myself like a mantra.
